Force quit in basilisk ii2/2/2024 ![]() What happens is, every time the emulated MacOS tries to make the switch to 256 colors, Basilisk freezes and RetroPie must be restarted. I have a posting aimed in his direction, but I thought someone here might have some insight as well. This is particularly frustrating because almost any game for the Mac of that era requires it be run in 8-bit color. I found that if I did not wait a minute or two, before the force quit, then upon relaunch the same hang would occur.Meneer Jansen over in "Gaming and General Discussion" was talking about an older Mac game he got working on RetroPie's Basilisk Emulator and it reminded me that I've yet to get a game working that requires 256 colors (8-bit color). To fix this, wait a minute or two, and only then force quit SheepShaver and then relauch. Sometimes, when launching SheepShaver, MacOS 9 starts up, loads the extensions but then hangs with a desktop, but no menu bar nor hard disks appear. Now run Myst – without needing to mount the Myst disk image first.Copy the entire contents of the mounted Myst disk image to the 1 GB Myst hard disk.In Preferences, create a 1 GB disk (500 MB may be sufficient).Select full screen from menu (it was greyed out for me) – or CTRL-RETURNĪvoid having to mount the Myst image each timeĬreate a hard disk called Myst that contains the contents of the Myst disk image file:.Set the resolution in the monitor control panel.Set resolution to 640×480 in the preferences.Remove the folder containing the StuffIt installer floppies from the Sheepshaver folder.Remove the System 7.5.5 disk from the Sheepshaver folder.Unmount (Delete) the two Stuffit Expander floppies.IMG to be mounted as a CD-ROM, to access the resources, so there is no point in copying the whole contents to the 1.5 GB disk Copy only the Myst application bundle to the 1.5 GB Extra hard disk.img file, from the Unix drive to the new 1.5 GB disk image, within SheepShaver IMG to the Shared folder, Shared, in OS X Download the Myst _.bin file – you need an account as it is over 100 MB in size.Copy over the applications from the System 7.5.5 disk to the Extra disk.Use the SimpleText from the 755 disk to open the StuffIt licenses file (i.e.Point the ROM to the New World PPC ROM file.Connect/mount (Add…) both of the StuffIt 800 kB floppies in the Preferences. The MacOS 9 image is a bare system disk and doesn’t contain SimpleText, whereas the 755 image is a lot more complete, with games and applications included (including DiskCopy).Connect/mount (Add…) both the MacOS 9 and System 755 images.Point the shared folder to the Shared folder.Move the unzipped folder to the Sheepshaver folder.Download the file (ZIP) with the two floppy disk images.Download StuffIt (Expander) 3.5.1 from MacintoshRepository. ![]()
